Chosun University: Expanding the Value of Korean Higher Education Worldwide

Founded in 1946 through contributions from more than 72,000 residents of Gwangju and the Honam region, Chosun University has a distinctive community-led history. In its 80th year, the university is advancing a strategy that connects education, research, industry, and international communities. Vietnam is a key link in its expanding Asian education network.

Rooted in the Community, Connected to the World

On September 29, 1946, more than 72,000 citizens founded Chosun University through a grassroots initiative. It became the first private higher education institution in the Honam region established by the local community.

In 2026, its 80th anniversary marks the start of Chosun University’s next century. The university aims to strengthen connections among the region, academia, and the global community.

Its 2030 development strategy, “BEYOND,” sets out a vision to become a “Global Value Creator” by linking education, research, industry, regional development, and international networks. By 2030, the university aims to rank among the world’s top 500 universities, Asia’s top 100, and Korea’s top 20 private universities.

Advancing Education and Industry through Innovation

Chosun University links education and research with real-world social and industrial needs.

In the field of healthy and active aging, Chosun University is advancing its vision to become a leading university in Asia. Through its three specialization areas—Bio-Medi, Age-Tech, and Life-Care—the university fosters interdisciplinary talent and promotes research and industry–academia collaboration. It is also working with the Gwangju–Jeonnam region to build an industrial ecosystem that supports healthy and active aging.

The same approach guides its semiconductor programs. Chosun University is developing undergraduate-to-graduate curricula in semiconductors and advanced chip packaging, covering materials, equipment, processes, and packaging technology. It also participates in a 10.5 billion won semiconductor-packaging workforce training program.

These initiatives connect academic learning with workforce needs, applied research, and industrial growth.

Vietnam: A Key Global Hub

Chosun University established the We’ll CSU Global Base Center to identify, select, and develop international talent. The model includes recruitment, Korean language instruction, foundational education, pre-matriculation preparation, and ongoing student support.

By 2030, the university aims to expand its Global Hub network to more than 30 universities, educational organizations, and research institutes worldwide.

Vietnam is a key focus within this network. Through partnerships with Thuyloi University and Binh Duong University, Chosun University has established Vietnam Hubs in Hanoi and Binh Duong. The hubs support recruitment, pre-matriculation training, talent development, and educational cooperation.

This cross-border model enables students to prepare in Vietnam through Korean language and foundational coursework before entering degree programs in Korea.

Study, Career, and Support for International Students

Chosun University supports international students through tailored academic, career, and settlement pathways.

Through Global College, international students enter without declaring a major and choose an academic track based on their aptitude and career goals. The program combines Korean language and foundational education with track-based major studies and career support.

Available tracks include Global Business, International Trade, Mechanical Engineering, Performing Arts Planning, Sports & Dance, K-Healthcare, Tourism Management, and Design & Media. Across four years, students receive support for Korean language learning, major exploration, advanced study, industry engagement, career education, employment counseling, and settlement preparation.

International students may receive admission scholarships based on TOPIK scores. Continuing students may also qualify for academic excellence scholarships based on the previous semester’s performance, as well as the Friend Referral, Living Expense Support, CSU Global Supporters, and CSU Frontier Scholarships.

Integrated academic, cultural, career, and scholarship support helps students build Korean language skills, professional competencies, career plans, and readiness for employment and life in Korea.

A New Chapter of Global Engagement from Asia

Eighty years after its community-led founding, Chosun University is building on its regional education and research base to expand its global engagement.

Its strategy focuses on educational innovation, research on social challenges, and international network expansion. Well-Aging addresses the needs of an aging Asia; technology training aligns students with industry; and Global Hubs connect international students, researchers, and partners.

As a Silver Sponsor at IECEE 2026, Chosun University presents its 80-year history, interdisciplinary research, industry-aligned education, and cross-border education network. The event introduces Vietnamese students to the university’s academic programs, scholarships, and international education pathways in Asia.
