Solving the global teacher shortage

Education today faces deep inequalities in access, a global shortage of qualified teachers, and outdated systems that leave millions unprepared for a rapidly changing, technology-driven world. Research shows that individualized tutoring outperforms group instruction dramatically (Bloom’s two-sigma problem), yet the high costs and the shortage of over 20 million qualified English teachers worldwide mean only a privileged minority of students ever benefit from such personalized learning. Today, an estimated 2 billion people are learning English, but fewer than 5% achieve fluency.
Efekta helps school systems that face teacher shortages. In many countries, teachers are asked to teach subjects like English, math, or science even when they are not trained experts. This happens because there are not enough qualified teachers. As a result, students struggle to learn, and teachers feel overstretched and stressed.
Efekta stands uniquely positioned in educational technology by providing personal English teaching at unprecedented scale to high schools, universities and global companies. It directly addresses this global challenge through its agentic teaching and learning platform. The platform is built on the world’s largest proprietary dataset of English language learning interactions and experience from the world’s first and largest online English school.
The assistance every teacher deserves

Efekta’s Agentic Teaching Platform supports teachers and gives every student a truly personal learning journey – answering questions, recommending practice, and keeping them on the fastest path to success. Classroom teachers save time by automating repetitive tasks, and are freed up to to do what only they can do: inspire, motivate, and give their time to the students who need it most.
At the heart of Efekta’s agentic teaching platform are two interconnected components:
1. Agentic Learning Companion: a constantly available, adaptive learning companion for every student.
Providing one-to-one support through immersive simulations, personalized practice, and instant feedback — dynamically adapting to individual learning styles, needs, and progress levels. Our AI brings the benefits of a personal learning companion, improving highly personalized learning for millions of students simultaneously, at a fraction of the cost of human-only instruction. It does not replace teachers, but complements them, ensuring that students receive individualized support. In other words, Efekta is making the benefits of one-to-one tutoring available to every learner.
2. Agentic Teaching Assistant: helping teachers plan lessons, analyse progress and focus on who needs support most.
Efekta’s AI Teaching Assistant gives educators real-time insight into student progress and practical guidance on what to do next in the classroom. The tool also enables school administrators and government leaders gain vital indicators to track learning progress across cohorts, schools and regions.
Efekta sets a new standard for AI in education by combining agentic AI with deep classroom context. Unlike solutions that rely on generic language models and prompts, Efekta’s proprietary technology continuously measures fluency using over 100 learning metrics captured across digital learning and live teacher interactions. This delivers unpresented precision, identifying exactly what each learner needs to progress.
Our approach keeps teachers at the centre. Rather than replacing educators, AI supports instruction, assessment and administration, freeing teachers to focus on motivation, coaching and targeted intervention where human interaction has the greatest impact.
Maximizing the impact of AI in education
Efekta’s agentic platform is delivering measuring impact at scale. In Paraná, Brazil, 750,000 students using the platform achieved a 32.5% improvement in state English proficiency tests. Analysis of learner progress against the CEFR framework shows that students can now reach upper-intermediate proficiency in 2.5-3 years, compared with the traditional 4-5 years, significantly accelerating outcomes.
The AI solution grew from early success in Paraná to additional Brazilian states including Sao Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul and Rondônia, contributing to a rollout reaching more than 4 million students and 25,000 teachers with over 100 million lessons delivered.
Rwanda’s nationwide teacher training program, launched in July 2025 with 16,000 teachers, rapidly scaled to 85,000 participants within months, now tracking to reach 150,000. Initial cohorts advanced from CEFR A2 (elementary) to B1 (intermediate) proficiency across all four language skills within just a few months, demonstrating accelerated progress.
Expanding footprint in Vietnamese education
In Vietnam, Efekta has partnered with Vietnam Education Publishing House to launch Happy Learning Lab (HLL), an AI-powered English learning solution for general education. A pilot at Western Hanoi School saw 98.6% of students improve their English proficiency, highlighting the solution’s ability to drive meaningful learning improvement. The first phase of the partnership will bring HLL to secondary schools in Ho Chi Minh City from the 2026–2027 academic year, with the potential to support wider adoption across the education system.
Expansion into new subjects
English is just the start – Efekta’s technology is designed to extend across subjects into mathematics, science, and other languages, creating solutions addressing multiple educational gaps simultaneously. Efekta is committed to a roadmap of continuous innovation, ensuring that personalization remains at the heart of learning while expanding into new domains and geographies. Efekta’s commitment to adding 100 million students within five years represents systematic educational transformation – partnering with worldwide governments to democratize access to quality education.
